Family Sessions are not something I really advertise like - AT ALL as weddings keep me pretty much insanely busy throughout the year but every now and again my friends and clients will ask me (subtly twist my arm) to do the occasional family session.
I, of course, have never regretted it as I love all my clients so much but I guess my brain gets so hyper focused on my Couples, their weddings and subsequent avalanche of wedding images to edit after the big day is done, I don’t have a lot of brain space left to think about other genres of photography much lately ha ha.
When my good friend Kaile and her husband Tyler asked me recently if I’d be up for a family session with her little family and some of her Tyler's family who were in town, who was I to say no!
Let me just tell you, as soon as I met this amazing group of people I was so sold on them and excited to just capture the genuine love and fun atmosphere between them.
I forgot for a minute that I was a Wedding Photographer and in that moment I became a Family Photography “ninja” lol. In all seriousness they welcomed me in and melted my heart, we had a blast and I was in tears with laughter more than once.
If I wasn’t busy posing and shooting one group they were running through the grass and trees all around me having a blast so in between the posed pics all I had to do was turn around and could capture them goofing off ha ha
I adored every single member of that family from my friends and their 3 year old little dude Jax, Tylers dad and step mom, all the siblings from both … but ... the icing on the cake was the Grandparents / Great Grand parents of the group - OMG guys!!! These 2 have been married 60 years this year! 60!!!! And they were as goofy and besotted with each other as a couple of teenagers in love. They made my heart so happy, had me in stitches laughing and after many of the “kissing shots” I even had to yell at him to let her go ha ha!
Uh-oh He found some Mistletoe!!
Sweetest ever RIGHT?!
The girls were hilarious, but were gorgeous and showed me they were pro's at this photo business ....
And then anarchy broke out! .... This may or may not have been my doing but ... I guess no one will ever know for sure shhhhhh
I made sure we fit in some sweet moments - of course!
Well ... when Jax let us keep him still long enough ha ha
And ALSO got to recreate a fun family photo tradition for all the siblings ... awww look they've gotten so big!
All in all, we laughed, we cried, we hugged - it was a WIN!
And so now I can happily say from the bottom of my Wedding Photographers heart … YES - I do shoot families too ... (But only if your way cool and super FUN ha ha!)
